Spring Babies at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Posted: Updated:
There is nothing like, a baby.

"Everyone loves babies."

The first day of Spring has brought a bunch of them to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. "The colder the winters the more spring babies we have. The first day of spring we've had a number of new additions to add to our family," according to zoo director Patti Hall.

There are baby kangaroos, ducklings and a gosling and just today, inside the nesting box of a pair of African Grey parrots, a baby hatched. Cell phone video captures just a glimpse.

The caution tape up around some exhibits this time of year is up for a reason. Some of the animals can get pretty frisky.

"Isn't that pretty. That's just fantastic," says Mary Jones on her first trip to the zoo from Nashville.

The first day of Spring, "It's just beautiful, the animals out and about playing and they're doing all the spring stuff, they are, I see that," says Lori Feurebacher.

"I've never seen anything like this," says Jones. "Just this one feature in this zoo has been worth the trip."

Baby season at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, "this is just the beginning. we'll start having babies now through March, April and part of May," says Hall.

A very special baby could be arriving at the zoo in late spring or early summer. Right now they are keeping it a secret. We'll let you know when and if it happens.
