As military sex cases end, more calls for change

Posted: Updated:
FORT BRAGG, N.C. -

The cases of an Army general and a former Naval Academy football player accused of sexual assault have come to a close, and neither was convicted of that charge.

Some members in Congress and advocates for women say that's a sure fire sign that the military justice system needs an overhaul.

On the other side of the debate, people say the system worked like it was supposed to because, they say, neither case should have gone to trial in the first place.

The cases also served as a reminder that politics aren't far away from decisions involving the military. Congress debated the military sexual assault problem this month and commanders were accused of forging ahead with the cases because of political pressure.
