Dozens of dogs seized from Hertford County home

Posted: Updated:
MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Dozens of dogs were seized Monday from a home in Hertford County.

Lt. Jessie Fennell tells 9 On Your Side deputies and several animal rescue groups responded to a home on Pine Tops Road in Murfreesboro around 9:30 a.m.

Fennell says around 60 dogs ranging in age from puppies to adults were seized. The homeowner, Terry Shinaberry, has a pending charge of animal cruelty.

The Sheriff’s Office says animal control officers have responded to Shinaberry’s home several times in the past. They were tipped off to the animal’s conditions after a puppy was bought from him and a vet told the buyer the dog received improper care.

Lt. Fennell says the dogs are now in the care of the SPCA and several other local organizations. We’re working now to learn more about their conditions.
