A Roanoke County student teacher's cover of a popular song from Frozen has been watched more than 300,000 times on YouTube and is advancing in a national contest.

Derek Govin is part of a competition on Ryan Seacrest's website.

People all over the country have recorded covers of Idina Menzel's Oscar-winning song, "Let it Go," from the Frozen soundtrack.

They've narrowed it down to the top 15 covers.  On Friday, March 28, they will eliminate the bottom five artists with the least amount of votes. A winner will be announced on April 1.

Fans are able to vote every 12 hours on the website.

Govin is currently a special education student teacher at Northside Middle School.

The contest grabbed the attention of someone in Nashville.

"He's a video producer who's worked with Rascal Flatts, Gavin Degraw in Skillet. He told me he enjoyed my videos, covers and thought I had great potential and wanted to work with me," said Govin.

You can follow Govin on facebook for more information.
