Craven County kicks off ‘Child Abuse Prevention Month’

Posted: Updated:
Dozens gathered outside of the Craven County Courthouse to support child abuse awareness.

The Community Coalition for Craven County Children presented the opening ceremony for ‘Prevent Child Abuse Month.’ The organization is hoping to bring child abuse awareness to Craven County. The presentation featured local officials and a child abuse survivor who spoke on the theme “Hope for Our Children, Hope for their future.”

“Children are vulnerable, they are little, they are dependant. They are brought into this world through no choice of their own and they are often the victims of circumstances, and given the recent economic times it has been very challenging for people. So, I think that it is real important that we continue as adults to take care of children and make sure that our most vulnerable are cared for in the way that they need to be.”  said Tanya Roberts the chairperson of the Craven DSS Board.

Throughout the month Craven County residents will see a planted garden of blue pinwheels. The pinwheels are planted in memory of children who have lost their lives because of child abuse.
