HARTSVILLE, S.C. -

Darlington County Sheriff's deputies are piecing together what started as a pursuit and ended in a deadly crash. It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Old Camden Road near New Market.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee confirms two people have died, a man and a woman.  Autopsies will take place Tuesday in Newberry.

Amberly McKenzie Hunnicutt, 27, and Tyler Evans Terry, 23, both of Hartsville died in the crash, Hardee said Wednesday afternoon.

Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd tells News13 the deputy clocked the car going 70 mph in a 35 zone and attempted to pull over the driver. The car went around a curve, out of the deputy's site.

The car crashed into Black Creek Bridge and overturned. When the deputy patrol car came around the curve, he couldn't stop in time and crashed into the car. The deaths are from the car being pursued.

The Deputy's name is Richie Stevens. He was treated and released from an area hospital.  Sheriff Byrd also said there was a volunteer ride along in the deputy's car as well and that person is alright.

The MAIT team is investigating.  Old Camden Road from New Market Rd. to the entrance of the Robinson Nuclear Plant is currently closed in Hartsville while crews are on the scene.
