Pregnant woman, 2 others injured in Selma shooting

SELMA, N.C. -

A pregnant woman was shot in the leg and two others injured Friday when an argument turned violent in Selma.

Police said a group of people were playing with water guns around 5 p.m. outside of the Standridge Apartments off River Road when a pregnant woman and a man began to argue.

The man involved in the argument retrieved a handgun from his apartment and shot the pregnant woman in the leg, police said.

The boyfriend of the injured pregnant woman brandished a shotgun and began firing, police said. The man who possessed the handgun was hit in the side by the shotgun.

Police said a person not involved in the argument was also hit in the buttocks and back by the shotgun.

The injured pregnant woman was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Both men who fired guns during the incident have been arrested, police said.

The man who police said shot the pregnant woman was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent kill and inflicting serious injury.

The second man who fired a gun in the incident was charged with two counts assault with a deadly weapon with intent kill and inflicting serious injury.

No further information was released.
