The state is asking victims of the 1933 Eugenics Board come forward to be compensated after North Carolina doctors wrongfully sterilized them.

The State Center for Health Statistics says over 7,600 people became sterilized between 1929 and 1974. It estimates nearly 3,000 could still be alive today.

During the peak years of the Eugenics board...between 1946-1968 several hundred in the east became sterilized.

Pitt County had about 150 cases. Lenoir and Duplin followed with high numbers of 61 and 75 respectively.

Last year Governor Pat McCrory authorized $10 million in compensation to be divided between those who submit a claim form.

The state reminded victims today they have till June 30th of this year to submit a claim.
