Update: No weapon used in robbery on ECU campus

GREENVILLE, N.C. - ECU Police are still searching for three individuals involved in an early morning robbery of a student on campus. They’ve also determined no weapon as used.

The robbery was reported early Saturday. According to Lt. Chris Sutton, police originally investigated the incident as a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon but during the investigation found that no weapon was used.

The  robbery, reported in the area near the Student Recreation Center, prompted a campuswide search and stepped-up patrols.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the East Carolina Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 252-758-7777.

A female East Carolina University student was assaulted and robbed Friday night walking through campus.

An ECU alert says a female student was walking through campus near the Student Recreation Center around 12:46 a.m. She was approached by two or three males wearing all black and masks covering their faces.

The student reported that one of the men took her purse and hit her in the head with the butt of a handgun. The suspects then ran through campus towards 5th street.

The victim was transported to Vidant Medical Center with minor injuries.

ECU Police Chief Gerald Lewis says,  "The East Carolina University Police Department will be stepping up patrols in the area in which this incident took place.  We will be reviewing surveillance camera footage and partnering with the Greenville Police Department in our efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this crime.  We will not stand idly by and allow these types of incidents to occur on our campus.”
