For many, it was a regular Saturday morning bike ride -- only this time, it was alongside a Heisman trophy winner and former two-sport star.

“Any chance to ride with your childhood heroes is a great thing to do,” said David Veve, who was riding in “Bo Bikes Bama” for the second year in a row.

The bike ride began in 2012 to help fellow Alabama residents recover from the tornado that hit the state the previous year.

“It's letting me know that I’m doing something not only for the betterment of my fellow man, but also bringing awareness to the rest of the country about how devastating a tornado can be,” said Bo Jackson.

The money Saturday will go toward the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund and will help pay for more than 60 community safe rooms across the state. A spokesperson for the "Bo Bikes Bama" event says the ride has raised more than $700,000 for Alabama storm damage relief.

“It's a way to give back to people,” said participant Mark Watts. “We get to have fun and exercise and be with a lot of nice people.”

This year's ride featured a 62-mile and 22-mile route option; both routes took bikers through the auburn area. Many celebrities came out to ride, including former MLB outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and recently hired Auburn Men's Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl.

"I do enjoy getting on the road and biking,” said Coach Pearl. “I wish I made more time for it, so I when I found out about Bo Bike Bama, I had to be a part of it.”

It's something most riders look forward to doing again, "Bo Knows" he'll be back for another ride next year.
