Little boy makes a prehistoric discovery in his neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN - A little boy goes out exploring near his Michigan home and ends up making a prehistoric find!

The nine-year-old stumbled across the tooth of a mastodon in a creek by his house.

Mastodons were an elephant-like beast that roamed North America 10,000 years ago.

After having a look, a Michigan State professor said it was the upper part of the tooth, which was broken off at the roots.  The tooth is about eight inches long and has six peaks.

The boy now says he wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up.
