A community is in mourning after a 15-year-old is killed in a crash early Sunday morning on Rocky Run Road in Onslow County.

People who live along the road say these type of accidents happen all too often.

"It's not a surprise," said Donna Jacobs-Greer, who lives near where the accident happened. "We have them here, like I said, 5 to 7 really bad ones a year. Unfortunately, a young man lost his life in this one. It's tragic."

Jacobs-Greer said her son goes to school with Marquice Brown, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The Jacksonville community says these types of crashes are heartbreaking.

"It's always sad when a part of your community dies in a car accident," said Bre Hoisington.

Those who drive along the road regularly say it is extremely dangerous.

"If there's any rain or any sort of flooding on the road, especially going at 70 miles per hour. You go around one of those turns, I can definitely see some issues," said Luke Pauley.

Onslow County school officials say counselors were on hand at White Oak High School, the school where all four teens attended.

Although speed appears to have been a factor in this accident, those who live along the road hope the DOT will make it safer.

"If they don't do something, this won't be the last fatality on it," said Jacobs-Greer.

Four White Oak High School students were involved in car accident early Sunday morning that killed the front-seat passenger according to State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 17-year-old Marquice Brown was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe north on Rocky Run Road when the vehicle missed a turn, traveled off road, went airborne over a creek, and struck a small tree on the front passenger side around 4:15 a.m. on Sunday.

Troopers said Brown had been emancipated and was living on his own.

The front-seat passenger, 15-year-old Zachary Aldrich, died in the crash.

Two other teenagers were in the backseat of the vehicle. 15-year-old Charles Russo and 15-year-old Taliesin Beaufort-Jimenez were both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Onslow County Board of Education said they have a crisis team in place at White Oak High School, and they expect them to be there all week.

Troopers said Brown is still in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and he will be facing charges. They do not believe any alcohol or drugs were involved, but they say speed was a factor. Troopers believe the vehicle was traveling between 70 and 75 miles-per-hour in a 55 mph zone.
