SC baseball team scraps racy marketing campaign

Posted: Updated:
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A South Carolina minor league baseball team is scrapping its racy marketing campaign after getting too much push back.  The Myrtle Beach Pelicans wanted to start the season with a marketing campaign that would be fun, catchy and draw more fans into the stands.

They went with a bird theme and the slogan, "Un-flocking Believable."  Because it's so close to another f-word, team management thought they might get a couple complaints.  What they got were 30 to 40 calls and e-mails calling the slogan inappropriate.

"If the community feels it's inappropriate, whether that's a big percentage or a small, it's in our best interest to do what's right for the community,” said Andy Milovich, General Manager.  “In this case, we feel as though changing course was the right way to go."

Now, billboards have to be changed and some 400,000 pocket schedules thrown out.  The Pelicans are part the Texas Rangers' farm system.
