Body of missing boater recovered from creek in Tyrrell County

Tyrrell County, N.C. - A missing boater's body was recovered Sunday morning at approximately 11:40 in the Alligator Creek in Tyrrell County.

On Saturday, The Tyrrell County Emergency Center received a call just after 7p.m. that a man had fallen out off his boat and into Alligator Creek. That man has been identified as William Brookshire, 57, from Winterville, N.C.

Tyrrell County Sheriff Liverman says Brookshire was found in the creek, not far from where he was last seen. His body is being transported to the Medical Examiner's office.

The U.S Coast Guard from Elizabeth City dispatched its helicopter and boat to assist in the search. The Tyrrell Fire Department,  The North Carolina Marine Patrol, and  North Carolina Wildlife also dispatched boats and emergency crews, The Tyrrell County Sheriff's Office and Tyrrell County Emergency Management also assisted in the search.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating the incident.
