GREENVILLE, N.C. -
Pitt County officials correct a literature problem outside the polls.

People passed out cards that did not include the name of the party or group that paid for them--- that's against the law.

The Pitt County Board of Elections says any material passed out at the polls must include who's responsible for it.

Dave Davis, Elections Director says the group responsible made the changes to comply with the law.

“It all comes back to campaign finance. If they are raising or spending above a set amount then they'll need to file a campaign finance report.” Davis said. “We need to know if it's connected to a campaign or a candidate or committee. Whatever you want on it is free speech, as long as they put that paid for by on it."

Pre-marked sample ballots are also subject to this rule. Early voting is open until May 3rd.
