Republican for Senate singles out rivals in debate

Posted: Updated:
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - A Charlotte pastor running for North Carolina Republican's nomination for U.S. Senate has singled out two rivals in their final debate, saying they have baggage that could make them unelectable in the fall against Democrat Kay Hagan.

Mark Harris began the third and final debate between the four leading GOP candidates Monday night at the University of North Carolina Television studios by naming state House Speaker Thom Tillis and Cary obstetrician Greg Brannon.

Harris says he's worried Hagan will rip Brannon or Tills apart if either one of them win the May 6 primary. Harris cited a civil lawsuit Brannon lost and is now appealing. He also says Tillis isn't that committed to preserving North Carolina's gay marriage ban.

Nurse Heather Grant also participated in the debate.
