NCDOT begins replacing bridges in Greene, Pitt counties Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
WINTERVILLE, N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin replacing two bridges on Darden Farm Road over Middle Swamp on Tuesday in Greene and Pitt counties.

The work is expected to take up to 180 days and during construction Darden Farm Road will be closed.

Drivers can use the detour of U.S. 13, Holloman Farm Road and Willow Green Road to avoid the closure.

NCDOT officials say the existing bridges need to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.  The current bridges were built in 1971 and 1975.

The bridge replacement comes as NCDOT is making investments to repair and replace substandard bridges across the state.
