Bulldogs inspired by one of their own

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - It's a story that's bigger than baseball. Diagnosed with Leukemia back in 2012, Goldsboro native Jake May says he was never going to let the disease hold him back from the things he wanted to do. The freshman catcher proved that this year by receiving chemotherapy one day and suiting up for the Pitt CC Bulldogs the next.

This week May is with his teammates as they prepare for the Region X Tournament. He had a hit and two RBI's over the weekend and wants to further contribute as the Bulldogs march into the postseason. More than what he does with his bat, he serves as an inspiration to his teammates and coaches.

Pitt CC Coach Tommy Eason says he's never seen somebody with so much drive and is one of the most special young men he's ever had the pleasure of coaching. Last Saturday Eason let May shave his head after their doubleheader. The event raised over $2,000 for Riley's Army.
