Salem soccer tournament brings in donations for kids overseas

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, VA - Hundreds of soccer players from five states were in Salem this weekend for the Kimoyo Cup. The Roanoke Star Soccer Club hosted the 5th annual event.

More than 90 teams came from as far away as Ohio to play at Green Hill Park.

Donations from the tournament go to Kimoyo Limited teaching more than 200 children in Ghana. Donations also include some soccer equipment.

"It's great to be over there the kids love playing soccer, they love the opportunity to receive the donated supplies and equipment that we are able to provide for them," said John Merten the Kimoyo Limited President.

Here in Virginia the group uses African art and culture to broaden student's cultural awareness.
