There will be a concert in Washington tonight to celebrate last month's canonization of popes John Paul II and John XXIII as saints. Performers include the Washington Choral Arts Society, Carnegie Hall's Orchestra of St. Luke's and Poland's Krakow Philharmonic Choir. PBS will broadcast the concert later in the year.

It's Cinco de Mayo, the day commemorating the Mexican army's victory over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. President Barack Obama will mark the holiday with a reception at the white House. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife are hosting a breakfast at their home.

The Special Olympics Little Feet Meet is today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northside High School. Nearly 1,000 young athletes will compete in Olympic style events.

The Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia is celebrating its 30th birthday today. The 18 bedroom house provides a home away from home for families of seriously ill or injured children being treated in local hospitals.

Screen free week begins today. It's a seven day celebration of life without screen-based amusements by the campaign for a commercial-free childhood. digital devices are still allowed for work and homework but families are encouraged to make time for playing, reading and connecting with nature.
