Franklin County fallen soldier recognized in bridge naming ceremony

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA - A special ceremony will be held Wednesday in remembrance of Cpl. Jared Kubasak at a bridge over the Pigg River on Route 40 in Franklin County.

Cpl. Kubasak was killed during his second tour of Iraq in 2005. He was the only soldier from the county to die in the war.

It's taken several years to get the bridge named in honor of him. It had to get passed by the county and state. His mother says it'll be emotional once the sign goes up.

"I think if he (Jared) sees all those people he would just be amazed by it all," says his mother Daina Kubasak.

Franklin County High School ROTC students helped raise money for the sign which was about $600.

The sign will be put up on Wednesday and unveiled during a ceremony where his parents and the rest of community will attend next to the bridge at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
