RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police have made an arrest in Monday's early morning home invasion where one of the victims was country singer and North Carolina State University student Scotty McCreery.

Mikkail Jamal Shaw, 19, of Raleigh, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday night and was processed at the Wake County Detention Center.

Shaw is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Officers were dispatched to 2130 Wolf Tech Lane shortly before 2 a.m. Police said three armed suspects entered the residence and took wallets, money and electronics from the victims.

According to police, McCreery, of Garner, and American Idol fame, did not live at the apartment.

Neighbors told WNCN the area is typically pretty safe and only time they would see the police come to the complex was if a party got too loud. When news of the home invasion spread, they said it's too close for comfort.

"We found out when the cop knocked on our door and told us what happened," said Scarlett Hoover. She lives right across from the apartment that was robbed. "The cops asked if we knew anything about it and we just thought, 'Holy cow, that could have been us.'"

No one was injured during the incident.

McCreery referred the robbery on Twitter, tweeting "Worst morning of my life" at one point and then saying he wanted to "get in my truck when I finally get home" to help "ease the pain of a rough start to the day."

On his Facebook page, McCreery thanked Raleigh police for their quick response.

"Yes, it was definitely a very scary night. Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case," McCreery said. "I will share more when the time is right, but as of now we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support."

The crime is still under investigation and police are looking for additional suspects known to be involved.
