VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - Vestavia Hills police are investigating a sexual assault that allegedly happened at a Cahaba Heights apartment complex this past weekend.

According to the VHPD, an alleged victim reported the sexual assault Saturday at the Crowne Apartments on Crown Ridge Drive.

Police are remaining quiet about the ongoing investigation, so we don't know the circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual assault, but we do know that police are still searching for a suspect.

Tenant Elizabeth Arnold says she found out about the incident after management left a letter on her door.

"It said for us to be very cautious about opening our doors and to be sure that we kept them locked at all times. Even if we were just going to the mailbox to be sure and lock our doors," she said.

Arnold say she's lived at Crowne for three years. During that time, the only crime she's known about was a car theft.

"When someone breaks a window in your car you don't feel personally threatened, whereas this is a little threatening," she said.

Police say the alleged assault happened early Saturday morning. Arnold says that alone is eery -- along with the fact that police are still searching for the suspect.

"We're all in danger. All of us. So -- we just wait and see," she said.

We reached out to the apartment complex for comment, but managers say police have asked them not to make any statements since this is an ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, police are asking people to be careful and report any suspicious activity they may see in the area. Anyone with information on the alleged sexual assault is asked to call the Vestavia Hills Police Department at 205-978-0141.
