Radford University students help tourism office launch marketing campaigns

Posted: Updated:
RADFORD - A group of students from Radford University presented their agritourism marketing campaign proposals to the regional tourism office Wednesday.

The students teamed up with tourism leaders at the beginning of the semester to help establish a plan for the agritourism industry, after Montgomery, Giles and Pulaski counties received a $65,000 grant to boost this type of tourism.

The student groups are targeting their campaigns toward both the potential consumer and the potential producer.  They say many farmers in the area have the ability to attract visitors to the area, but they need to be taught how to diversify their product.

Tourism director Lisa Bleakley says many of these marketing elements from the students will be implemented right away, like a consolidated social media site and a paperless advertising campaign.  Some of the ideas will be applied on more long-term basis, but the tourism office must have a finalized plan by October to apply for implementation funds.
