Residents saving tax dollars with record tourism

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Residents in the East are saving about $435 in state and local taxes from a record number of tourists visiting the state.

According to the state Department of Commerce, more than 52 million visitors came to North Carolina spending more than $20 billion.

"It's rewarding for one thing to have our visitors come to Pitt County," said Andrew Schmidt, interim director of the Greenville-Pitt County Convention Center & Visitors Bureau. "It's a good economic shot in the arm of our local economy."
