New ECU police chief sworn in

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The new police chief at East Carolina University was sworn in Thursday afternoon.
Chief Gerald Lewis came to ECU from New Jersey, where he was with the state police for 26 years before retiring in December.
Lewis says he looks forward to working with law enforcement across the area.

"One of the things like I am really looking to do is teaming with a number of the law-enforcement agencies in this particular area,” said Gerald Lewis. “Pitt County with Neil Elks, Greenville Police Department chief Hassan Aiden and all the departments to the State Highway Patrol and everyone else. I think that if we partner, we share resources with and be very successful in keeping not only just East Carolina University safe, Greenville, and also Pitt County."

Lewis joined the police department in January, but had to go through North Carolina law enforcement certification first.
