Yoga trainer who helps inmates comes to Asheville

Posted: Updated:
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - A man who trains yoga practitioners how to help prisoners is coming to Asheville.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (http://avlne.ws/1jOY9J0) that James Fox of the Prison Yoga Project will work next month with the Asheville Yoga Center. He provides in-depth training how to teach yoga to people who have experienced trauma, including prisoners.
Fox started teaching yoga and meditation to male prisoners at California's San Quentin Prison in 2002. He has trained more than 500 yoga teachers to provide a specialized set of yoga practices geared toward calming and reflection.  He believes inmates function better if they can cope with stress.
He says most who attend his classes are certified yoga teachers, but many are also social workers or others who work with prisoners.
He'll be in Asheville on June 6-8.
