City leaders want input on future of Greenville's tobacco district

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Greenville residents are reacting to proposed plans to revitalize Greenville's tobacco district.
At a public meeting at Greenville City Hall, residents were mostly positive about the proposals to turn the district into a residential, commercial and entertainment district.

"Well I'm very excited to see Greenville growing up," Tariq Weeks said. "To see it expanding and becoming a big city actually."

Others had concerns about efforts to preserve the district's historical warehouses.

"I notice several of the street realignments are going through several of the buildings that are currently sitting there," Ryan Webb of the Greenville Historic Preservation Commission.  "[We need to] take into account all the structures over there before we start realigning streets."
