Gray whales spotted off California’s coast

Posted: Updated:
CALIFORNIA - A news chopper in California spotted a small pod of gray whales swimming near the coast Tuesday.

Experts say it is the time of year when most mothers start migrating north with their calves.  They've left the warm waters of Mexico and are headed up to Alaska.

They travel close to shore where waters are shallower and where they're safer from predators such as orcas.
