Hospital employees stalled patients from receiving help

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. - Two employees in Durham’s VA hospital have been put on administrative leave.

They've been accused of inappropriate scheduling practices that may have kept veterans from getting the help they need.

The hospital says if the allegations are true it happened  between 2009 and 2012. An audit team was on site Tuesday to begin an investigation.

Shannon Mann with the Durham VA knows this is dealing with people’s lives “we want to take every means necessary that were doing a thorough review because it affects them and it affects our center so we want to do it right"

The Durham hospital is the fourth hospital where wait lists have apparently been manipulated. The other three hospitals are in Phoenix, San Antonio and central Texas.

In the case specific to Phoenix, administrators there kept an ‘off-the-books’  list to conceal long wait times. Shockingly 40 veterans died while waiting to get an appointment.
