Thousands come out for MCAS Cherry Point Air Show

Posted: Updated:
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Thousands across the east came out this weekend for the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show.

9 On Your Side was happy to be there. It was beautiful weather for the show.
Officials with Cherry Point say they haven’t finished calculating all the figures, but they're confident, saying they set records for attendance on Friday and Saturday.
Cherry Point's air show is the largest air show in the Carolinas and one of the largest military air shows in the southeast. The air show, according to Col. Chris Pappas, costS approximately $500,000 to put on.

Marines say its a great way to interact with the community.

"It's awesome. Everybody doesn't get to see what we do on a day -to-day basis.  It's cool to  answer questions, have the little kids come around, ask you what you do, and look up to you," said Corporal Ben Barger.

The air show features helicopter, aircrafts, and jets flown by both civilians and Marines.
