Edwards' legal team wins family $13M in Greenville hospital case

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Former U.S. Senator and democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards wrapped up a case today in Greenville.

He’s been in court since April representing the family of a 4-year-old boy with brain damage and physical injuries. The boy’s family says the injuries happened back in 2009 while the boy was being treated at Pitt County Memorial Hospital which is now Vidant Medical Center.

Edwards says his legal team was able to recover $13,000,000 from the hospital on behalf of that little boy, money that will change his life.

“I was happy to be back in the courtroom. We fought like crazy for this kid. That’s what this case was all about,” said Edwards.

The boy’s father, Cornail Gaymon, also spoke to 9 On Your Side Thursday. He says it’s a huge relief this part of the trial is over, that his family can actually get back to their lives.

Edwards tells us there was a hung jury on the 2nd part of the case, against a doctor. They’re preparing now to re-try that part.
