FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Furious about delays in health care and patient deaths at Veteran Affairs hospitals, some local veterans are taking action.

Concerned Veterans for America is hosting a "Week of Action" across the country. Several events have taken place in the Tar Heel State. The group is working to ensure that H.R. 4031 gets a vote in Congress.

Saturday morning, volunteers went door to door in Fayetteville to get support for the bill. H.R. 4031 will ensure increased accountability for managers of VA facilities and departments. The bill will also empower the VA secretary with direct oversight and accountability of senior executive service employees.

"We are just trying to address the problem that gives the right kind of authority to the head of the veteran’s administration so that he can begin to take at least some corrective action to get rid of the horrible back logs and horrible mistreatment that's going on now," said Vietnam vet Ronald Rabin.

For months veterans have been outraged by patient deaths at VA hospitals and delayed care in other states like Arizona, South Carolina, Georgia.

Now North Carolina is on their radar and the nonprofit group wants a solution.

"We are just trying to bring the procedures in line and make the VA accountable to its clientele, to the people who really need those services," said Concerned Veteran's For American Director John Byrnes.

H.R. 4031 has been formally scheduled for a vote on Tuesday afternoon in the House.
