Attorney General Roy Cooper tours Lenoir County

KINSTON, N.C. - Attorney General Roy Cooper visited the east Tuesday.

9 On Your Side was there as he toured Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School near Kinston.

He says the school's STEM program is a leader in alternative education. The program gives students the advantage of a corporate-sponsored classroom, where they each use Macbook Air computers and work at stations set up to model an industrial research lab.

"When you think about where jobs are going to be in area of math, science, engineering, technology, this is a good way to get kids interested in those areas," said Roy Cooper, NC Attorney General. "This school works to not only use the public school system, but to bring in the community, bring in business and others to make it successful. And, it's certainly a model for what other schools can do in eastern North Carolina."

When asked why the attorney general is touring schools in the east, Cooper said the best way to protect the public is to begin with our youth, making sure they're getting a strong education.

Cooper also spent day touring the downtown Kinston and the North Carolina Global Transpark.

" I grew up in eastern North Carolina. I certainly understand the challenges, but I feel confident working together we can improve the quality of life here. Not only here, but across North Carolina," said Cooper.
