MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -
Two Morehead City firefighters were injured Wednesday evening while working to put out a fire, according to Morehead City Fire Chief Jamie Fulk.

The firefighters had just finished working on a wild land fire for two hours when they were sent to two story house fire on Meadow Drive.

Fire crews were called in around 6:30 p.m. from Morehead City, and crews from Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Wildwood and Newport fire departments assisted.

On the scene, firefighters found a large amount of fire coming from the garage. The fire extended into the living room of the home causing extensive damage.

Fulk says the two firefighters were taken to Carteret General Hospital. Both were treated and released for their injuries.

Crews worked for over an hour to control the fire, and were able to completely put that fire out by 10 p.m. Monday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Witnesses tell the Morehead Fire Department the occupant of the home was out of town at the time of the fire.
