Chapel Hill Police Department said a 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting Friday near Fordham Boulevard and south of the University of North Carolina campus.

The Chapel Hill Police said that around 11:54 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Christopher Road about a report of a breaking and entering and someone being shot.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who had been shot on the scene. Chapel Hill police identified the victim as 33-year-old Lew Hahn Hood. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police arrested Bartholomew Romidas Scott Friday and charged him with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond, police said.

Two nearby schools, St. Thomas More Catholic School and Glenwood Elementary, were on lock down for part of the day. Police said there was never a direct threat to the schools, but school officials chose to shut them down as a precaution.

"The first thing is you're concerned about the safety of your kids and all the kids in the building," said Bob Mackinnon.  He has two sons that attend the school.  "But also there is a confidence of how they handle things at St. Thomas More."
