ECU Athletics to hold MLB Draft watch party

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina Athletics officials have announced it will hold a Major League Baseball Draft Watch Party this Thursday, June 5 at Mellow Mushroom in anticipation of Jeff Hoffman’s potential school record-breaking draft selection.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. (ET) at the restaurant located at 2020 Charles Blvd. in Greenville, N.C., in advance of the MLB Draft Show starting at 7 p.m. Dedicated TV’s with sound will be available to the Pirate Watch Party on the patio and anyone who attends the event will be given a raffle ticket and have a chance to win two free season tickets for the 2015 baseball season. Drawing will commence once Hoffman has been selected and Pirate fans must be present to win.

Hoffman, who posted a 3-3 record with a 2.94 ERA as a junior before suffering a season-ending injury, has been tabbed as a potential top-15 selection in many mock projections across the country leading up to this Thursday’s event.

The Latham, N.Y. native will look to become the highest draft pick in school history, which is currently owned by East Carolina Hall-of-Famer Theodore “Blue” Edwards after he was taken with the 21st-overall selection by the Utah Jazz in the 1989 National Basketball Association Draft. A pair of Pirates, Robert Jones (1992/Dallas Cowboys) and Chris Johnson (2008/Tennessee Titans), were taken 24th overall in the National Football League Draft, while Pat Watkins (1993) is currently the highest-ever MLB selection after he was tabbed as the 32nd overall pick in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds.

** Note: Jeff Hoffman will not be in attendance for this event as he is back home in New York celebrating this moment with family and friends.
