Augusta, GA - Heroes around the CSRA were honored Wednesday morning for their life-saving efforts.

More than 300 people gathered at First Baptist Church of Augusta Wednesday morning for the 3rd annual American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast.

Thirteen citizens were designated heroes, and given awards for performing selfless acts which, for many, ended up saving someone’s life.

The categories included everything from military heroes to educator and water rescue heroes.

“It’s very humbling, very humbling, and I’m very grateful that the gentleman I helped is here and doing so well. I mean, it’s a miracle," said Dr Mark Knight, a medical hero.

“It’s an exciting event for us to raise money for the community, to help disaster victims, and it’s real humbling to be involved in it” said Heroes Breakfast chairman Alan Smith.

The monthlong Heroes campaign raised more than $4,500. That money goes back to the local community during times of disaster. The money was raised with the help of fundraising efforts by voluntary teams designated as Life Saving Heroes.

One member of the extended WJBF News Channel 6 family was also honored at the event. Maddy Elledge, daughter of our Jennie Montgomery and her husband Scott, was honored for her efforts to save a little boy's life in Folly Beach, South Carolina, last July.
