GreenJackets Beat Legends 8-7

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (30-29) won their second game of the series against the Lexington Legends (25-36) on Friday night, at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The final score was 8-7. The GreenJackets win puts them above .500 for the first time since May 3, 2014. 

A single by John Polonius drove in the first two runs for the GreenJackets in the second inning. Lexington responded with two runs in the third. Frank Schwindel drove in the first run with a single to right-center field and he then scored on an error.  

Lexington took the lead in the fourth when they scored three runs. Alfredo Escalaera-Maldonado drove in the first run with a single to left-center field. With two outs, Mauricio Ramos doubled to center field driving in two more runs. 

The Legends continued to extend their lead in the seventh with one run plated by Dominique Taylor. With the GreenJackets down four runs, Jeremy Sy, hit a grand slam to left field on a 0-0 pitch to take the lead, 8-6. Lexington plated their final run in the eighth on a single to right field by Mauricio Ramos. 

Steven Messner earned the win for the GreenJackets. He is now 4-1 with an era of 3.53. Jake Smith earned his second save of the season. 

The GreenJackets continue their series against the Lexington Legends Saturday, June 7 at 7 p.m. It’s Scout Night and Sleepover at the ballpark. The GreenJackets invite all Boys Scouts to attend the game and sleepover at Lake Olmstead Stadium. It’s also Family Fun Night.
