Report: Greeneville man wrecks, dies fleeing hit-and-run with police cruiser

GREENVILLE, TN (AP) -

A 74-year-old man who was speeding away from a Greeneville police officer wrecked and was killed Sunday night.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, David M. Fillers, 74, of Greeneville, hit a Greeneville City police cruiser on Park Street and drove away just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The officer tried to catch up with Fillers, but he sped off down East McKee Street, drove off the road in a curve and struck a guard rail before finally hitting two trees.

Fillers was partially ejected from the car.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.
