New boat access ramp opens in Lenoir County

Posted: Updated:
KINSTON, N.C. - People in Lenoir County receive a little help getting their boats out on the Neuse River.

On Friday, The North Carolina Wildlife Commission officially opened a new boating access ramp in Kinston.

The ramp area is located  on Highway 11-55 across from the Kinston Nature Center. The park includes two launch ramps and a floating dock. The access area also includes parking spaces for 31 trailers and 11 cars.

Lenoir County resident Bud Vick says he’s been eyeing the construction for months.

"There are many ramps in Craven County, downriver, there are many ramps in Wayne County upriver, and Lenoir County hasn't had one. It's about time we do get one, and I'm very happy to have it,” said Vick.

Prior to this opening, Lenoir County was one of four other counties is North Carolina that had navigable water without a ramp.

The ramp will be maintained by Lenoir County; however, the NC Wildlife Commission will repair any damage to the infrastructure.
