PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - A vehicle discovered in the water near John's Pass early Wednesday morning had been stolen, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office investigators.

"We ran the license plate information and were able to contact the registered owner who advised us that the vehicle had been stolen several months ago and recovered and returned to her," Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Cristen Rensel said.

But then Wednesday morning the owner discovered it had been stolen once again. Investigators say the Isuzu's keys were never found after the first time it was stolen on February 12.

Deputies responded to a call about a vehicle in the water at 129th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard around 4:40 a.m. The vehicle was near the beach access across from John's Pass in Madeira Beach. PCSO dive units responded and did not find any people inside the vehicle, which is believed to be a yellow Isuzu VehiCROSS.

According to PCSO, the vehicle's front windows and sunroof were open. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter also responded to the scene.

Crews pulled the vehicle out of the water and deputies are now investigating the theft.
