One lane is closed on Interstate 81 northbound in Montgomery County after a tractor trailer fire.

It's near mile marker 127 on I-81.

511 Virginia reports that traffic is now backed up five miles.

State Police received the call at 7:14 a.m.

The driver tells police he heard an odd sound come from his truck.

He told police he then lost control of his brakes.

The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road against the guardrail.

The tractor caught on fire during the incident and is a total loss.

The driver was able to unlatch his trailer however, so that had minimal damage.

Police and crews are working to clear the scene. It could take a couple of hours.
