One man was killed when his moped and a pickup truck collided on Highway 11 in Ayden.

Ayden Police say the wreck happened around 10:30 Wednesday morning, near Snow Hill Road. The two vehicles were headed south when the pickup struck the moped from behind.

Police said the victim was 68-year-old Shephard Spruill of Grifton. Spruill was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

The driver of the 1989 Chevy S-10, Andrew Little, is from Stokes. Police say Stokes is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
