AUBURN, Ala. -

Investigators have developed a "person of interest" following a string of car break-ins in the Opelika and Auburn area.

The past several weeks, dozens of cars have been broken into and various items have been stolen. On Wednesday, Auburn police released an image of a man captured on surveillance equipment near a break-in on Ocelola Court on Tuesday. In that incident, a portable DVD played valued at approximately $100 was taken from a 2001 Mercedes C240 parked in the 1000 block of the street, Auburn police say.

The Opelika Police Department has begun broadcasting public service announcements to residents reminding them to lock their cars and hide valuables.

Investigators hope someone will recognize the man and call the Auburn Police Division at 334-501-3140 or the Tip Line at 334-246-1391.
