Some July 4th events rescheduled due to Arthur

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Towns in eastern North Carolina are keeping an eye on the weather, hoping that the Hurricane Arthur does not force them to cancel their July 4th events.

Morehead City made the decision to cancel events, canceling the Live at Five concert set to take place Thursday, evening. Tom Kies, the Executive Director of the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association, says that the decision was made so that no one was put in danger. Morehead City's firework celebration will be held Saturday, July 5 at 9 p.m.

Kies says that unless the crew and materials are unable to reach the launch site located in the Morehead City Harbor, Friday night’s concert and fireworks presentation will go on as planned. The Seaside Band will take to the stage at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will start at 9 p.m.

Atlantic Beach has moved its fireworks celebration to Saturday, according to Mayor Trace Cooper.  It will start at 9 p.m.

Surf City rescheduled the July 4th celebration to August 29th, for an end of the summer fireworks celebration.

The town of Belhaven has adjusted its 4th of July schedule. All events scheduled to happen on the 4th, will now happen on Saturday, the 5th.  Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, July 5th at 9 p.m. on the water front.

The town of Washington has canceled all 4th of July activities happening before 6 p.m. Officials say they expect to proceed with the Spare Change concert beginning at 6 p.m. and the fireworks and laser show immediately following the concert.

Fireworks and 4th of July celebrations are going on as previously scheduled in Greenville, Emerald Isle, Jacksonville, New Bern and Camp Lejeune.
