Camera poles installed along Durham's American Tobacco Trail

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

The City of Durham began the first phase of installing new cameras along the American Tobacco Trail in an effort to keep the trail safer in light recent attacks.

The part of the trail between Enterprise Street and the American Tobacco Campus will be fitted with cameras.

Crews began installing the poles for the cameras Wednesday morning with the hope of getting the actual cameras up by early August.

The City of Durham is responsible for putting in the poles. Then Duke Energy will wire the poles for electricity before the cameras will be installed and managed by the management company that runs the American Tobacco Campus.

ATC will share any video of crimes to the Durham Police Department.

The goal is to have six cameras that will be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
