Possible tornado damages homes in Duplin County

KENANSVILLE, N.C. - A possible tornado rolled through Duplin County Thursday leaving behind a path of damage.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace said one home on US 117 suffered heavy damage from the tornado.

Jose Trejo was home with his kids when the storm hit. He said he will never forget what it was like.

"All of a sudden I heard wind blow real hard and then I heard some whistle. I felt some pressure on the windows and then the first thing that went through my mind was to get my kids in the living room, then took them to the bathroom and then as we were heading to the bathroom the ceiling was just collapsing behind us," Trejo said.

A home on Earl Davis Road also suffered some damage to its roof. No one was home when that house was damaged.

Sheriff Wallace said he believes the tornado touched down around 4:15 p.m.

Ricky Dever, Duplin Co Fire Marshall, also says another home was damaged in today's severe weather.

A car traveling along US 117 was also struck, sending it into a ditch. The driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to Vidant Duplin.
