Crystal Coast mostly spared damage from Hurricane Arthur

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. - People in Carteret County are especially grateful that Arthur mostly spared the area.

Emerald Isle plans to put on their fireworks show as scheduled at 9 o’clock at the Bogue Fishing Pier.

Many were worried the plan would be either cancelled or postponed. But that’s not the case.

The emergency operation centers are reporting minor damage across Carteret County.

At the Harbor Church in Morehead City, bricks were pulled off the wall. They came crashing down in the parking lot.

And in Beaufort, gusty winds brought tree limbs to the ground.

The wind and rough surf is also the likely cause of a boat collision. A couple of boats got tied up, while others got beached.

The most dramatic scene was at an apartment complex in Beaufort. A few people living at the complex on Leonda Drive in Beaufort were displaced Thursday night.

Firefighters asked them to leave after two trees came crashing down on their roof.

"I was completely hysterical and very, very scared,” said Vania Wood, displaced by storm. “We heard the noise and three minutes later the other tree fell down on that side you can see."

Meanwhile, Emerald isle is getting prepared for a fantastic fireworks show.

Barrels were being set up by the Bogue Pier and the Emerald Isle Fire Dept. They’re urging everyone to come check it out!
