Marine jailed, charged with murdering wife

Posted: Updated:
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Deputies say 32-year-old Christopher Michael Skaggs, an active-duty Marine, faces charges after shooting and killing his wife at their Richlands home.

Deputies say they found 31-year-old Jordan Skaggs dead from gunshot wounds to the chest Sunday night.

Investigators say Christopher Skaggs went into a rage and started shooting his wife with a handgun.

The couple have 3 children, who were at a neighbor’s home when the shooting happened.

Neighbors say nothing like this has ever happened there.

"I understand that these are isolated incidents and the neighborhood responded appropriately,” said Derek Johnson, neighbor. “I believe we have a good, strong neighborhood that worked together and kept everyone informed."

Deputies say they've responded to 2 calls at the Skaggs' house last year.

Christopher Skaggs is in the Onslow County Jail under no bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
